I’ve recently purchased a dual climate wine refrigerator and I want to start collecting wines. My question is how do I select bottles to age?

For example, If I want to get some recent vintage Chardonnay from Napa Valley can I just pick any bottle from any distributor, or are some better for aging compared to others, and how to know? Is there any reference material that will help figure this out?
