For a birthday - a mix of very experienced wine drinkers, new enthusiasts, and people who don’t drink wine as an art. I’m in charge of orchestrating the pillars of the event: food pairing selection, wine selection, and music.
I’m thinking, as a set wine, Vigna Monteprandone (it’s a very complex wine, especially given it’s youth: chocolate, darkened cherries, and tar are notable flavors.) I am looking for suggestions for: - A Bordeaux: something under $50, but characteristically and noticeably, a French wine, possibly one with a hint of old must - willing to increase the budget here -A sparkling wine. I am inclined to determine it a champagne, but also remember a great Prosecco that was $35...but that was a while ago I tried it -Another variety of red, distinctly different from the ones listed prior -A completely different wine. I had initially thought rosé, but am even interested in the experimental varieties. I have yet to find a white that is appealing, so I am not looking too much into that.
Then, because everyone is a vegetarian, cheese, mini desserts, and herbs such as fresh basil as accompaniments, and hand-selected playlist of modernist, baroque, and romantic era classical music that are provocative and compelling, even to those who are new to the genre. Attire will be whatever a person’s favorite nice outfit is. Knowing the guests, it will probably range from sundresses and sports jackets to a full black tux - and, knowing the guests, that will make everyone feel comfortable and happy.
This got a little away from the subject, but what suggestions on wine, and otherwise, do you have? Guests are 4-5 (with mindful social distancing, don’t worry)
