Moving bottles from standing to side

I've left my homemade wine standing for months partly because of storage options and partly because I didn't know it was important to keep them on the side. Is it ok to put them on the side now? Does the cork provide any less sealing protection? I left one bottle on it's side overnight and it seems fine.
