2017 Frontanec, Drumlin Ridge Winery, Waunakee, WI

Just had this today as part of a 6 wine tasting on site at the Drumlin Ridge vineyard. Fantastic first visit, introduction to the owner David and a tour of grounds, production, history. This wine of all 6 reds I tried stood out, as did a dessert wine for that matter but I'll leave that for another posting.

Very nice dry red, full body, deep, tart, not too bitter, not too much burn at all on the (mild) finish. 11.3%, dark fruit, leather, coffee, smoke, oak, campfire, dark chocolate all very clearly found on the nose and the tongue with this one. Almost starts off as what seems to be sweet but never actually goes to what I would call a sweet red wine. Good enough to grab a bottle on site and one for back home.

Wine info link.
