Where do I start with my wine journey?

I enjoy red drinking wine but I never know what bottle to pick up. How can I start to discover what I really enjoy? Without bankrupting myself and buying lots of wines!

From my limited knowledge I like Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot (in that order from favourite)
