I’m trying to learn more about Italian wine and I’m a bit confused about what makes a Super Tuscan a Super Tuscan. I read something this morning that stated Super Tuscans came about so winemakers could use non-indigenous grapes in their wines like merlot and cab sauv. Made sense to me until I started reading the backs of some Chianti bottles and they contain cab and merlot. What am I missing?
