Bold varietals to try

I tend to gravitate towards Pinot, Zinfandel, and the occasional rioja or Italian wine. I am looking for red wines with bold flavors and aromas, that aren’t overly tannic. Could anyone recommend some varietals to try? I tend to usually spend 15-25 on a bottle if that helps. Thanks!
