Do people here play the “Wine Options” game?

Every month me and a group of friends have a Wine Options evening. We get together for dinner and each bring a bottle of wine we serve blind and ask 4 multi choice questions about. Each question is answered before you ask the next, so things get narrowed down a bit as you go.

It’s a great way to learn a lot about wine, and especially how hard it is to pick things without seeing the label!

Questions might look like:

1) Is this wine varietal Pinot Noir, a Bordeaux blend or Syrah / Shiraz?

2) Is this wine from France, the US, or New Zealand?

3) is this wine from Hawkes Bay, Marlborough or Otago?

4) Is this a 2010, 2014 or, 2018?

Questions can be as vague or specific as you like. Tailor it to your groups experience.

Tonight we had a really nice NZ Syrah and the last question was “Is this the bullnose 2017, elephant hill 2015 or craggy range 2019”. A question more about the colour of the wine (old Syrah takes on different hues) than the taste, as it turns out. I guessed Bullnose and got it wrong, it was the Elephant Hill. Bloody tasty, regardless.
