Recommendations for someone just barely getting into wine?

Aside from a full on wine tasting, what suggestions would you have for someone who is really new to wine? I am planning on a trip to a vinyard sometime next year but until then I'm just looking for recommendations.

I have only tried a couple wines, and I've found I really enjoy stella rosa rosso and stella rosa black. However, I would prefer something not sparkling, and still a bit on the sweet side. And I noticed they are only 5% abv, are there any wines that fit these criteria but also stronger?
