Tips on building a collection / cellar

To anyone who has built up a collection over time, what would be some tips you would like to share. Mistakes or things you are happy you done, ideal size , strategy to building the collection etc

Reason for asking is developing a wine collection that I can start to enjoy in say 10-15 years while continually replacing is something of a personal goal. With that said the only bottle I have laying down is a 2016 barolo so I have some work to do albeit feeling somewhat lost.
