Wine storage question

We are getting a little more into wine, and have a quick question. Live in Florida, hot summers and always humid. House usually 73-75 when home, maybe 79 when no one is home. Have a wine storage cabinet above the fridge, but looking to get a wine cooler to start building our collection. My question is that if the wine is supposed to stay in a dark area, why do most of the coolers have glass fronts? Is it a dark area, or is it just out of sunlight?
