Champagne for long aging

Hi everyone,

A friend of our is due to have their first baby soon. As a present we were considering buying a bottle of Champagne /Sparkling wine which they could age to be opened on the child's 18th birthday. Firstly, is this a good idea? If stored properly, will the bottle age well? And if so, what type should we look for, and do you have any suggestions.

Champagne obviously has the prestige, but we're not adverse to buying something which might not be French.
