How can I taste if a wine and food pairing is good?

Sry if this is stupid but I'm new to wine and don't know how I'm supposed to taste if a specific wine tastes good with a specific food.

Like I know logically that a full bodied red with tannins tastes good with very fatty meat, but to me the pairing doesn't taste any better than if the wine were a very light low tannin red.
