How much do wine aroma kits help?

I’ve been getting more and more into wine tasting and can’t help but feel confused whenever I see certain aroma notes as standard for a grape or wine. Can folks share their experience with aroma kits (given how expensive they are) and describe how much of an improvement in their tasting they actually noticed? :)
For 15 years, Athan Zafirov has traveled the vineyards around the world and worked with some of the greatest chefs including Francois Duc and Alan Brown.
