Desperately in need of someone with more experience handling Viognier/Condreau than myself!I've got 3 bottles of Domaine Georges Vernay - Christine Vernay - 'La Pied de Samson' Viognier 2017 that I'm not sure if they're worth holding onto. Some points:
- I recently opened one up and ended up only drinking half a glass because it seemed overdeveloped to me. Although at that time, I hadn't yet come to understand Viognier's development beyond it's first 3 years of 'fresh and lively' drinking.
- 2017 was a mixed vintage for Northern Rhone in general, especially whites. Challenging conditions, low yields, mixed quality.
- Well-regarded producer, bottles have been cellared well
What would you do in this situation? I've read that Viognier/Condrieu has an awkward phase between 3-7 years of age where it's past it's 'fresh' style, but not yet developed into it's 'rich, complex, nutty' sort of style. Can anyone confirm this?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated
