An example - I bought a 1987 DeLoach zinfandel on winebid recently for like $20 as part of a little get-together with friends, where we all drank fairly inexpensive birth year wines. It wasn't just the best of the lineup, but it was truly amazing, with powerful scents of cedar and leather from the American oak, some vibrant fruit preserves (shockingly fresh), and plenty of lingering structure. Felt very serious and very alive, and really threw me for a loop, especially based on (most) of my experiences with modern Zin.
