Advice on decanting

Hi friends,
Sorry for being the noob of the day but I would appreciate some advices on decanting.
Never really done it or had wines that called for it. What would be your advices on decanting? When do you know a wine is ready after a few hours?
To be clear, I am mainly drinking around 40€ Bordeaux from 2015, 2016 and 2018.
