Twisting open a champagne bottle?

I'm told I should hold the bottle at a 45 degree, untwist the cage with thumb over top, then twist the bottle with my other fingers around the cage.

For me... the cork rotates with the bottle. I don't understand how twisting the bottle gets the cork out. I feel like I have to pull the cork back and forth to get it loose. And my fingers get tired!

Maybe I've been opening stubborn bottles? How do you manipulate the cork in your top hand so you get it out with minimal effort (and minimal fizz)?
