I cellar my wine in a chiller at 13C or 55F. All bottles are on their side/horiontally on the standard shelves inside the chiller.
Someone recently told me that old bottles are better stored upright. The explanation is the the cork on very old bottles may be degraded already and storing them horizontally will put the cork in contact with the wine which will weaken the cork further, resulting to possible leaks. Is this correct?
