Is it OK / considered rude to ask a wine shop how long they’ve had a bottle or about their storage?

I’m looking at pulling the trigger on a fairly expensive (for me) bottle of red - 2011 vintage (circa £250 if that matters), looking around they have only one bottle and it’s stood upright on a shelf - am I being anal to want to know how long it’s been stored like that for - and would it be considered rude to ask?

For context it’s a specialist, independent wine shop, that I’ve visited a handful of times and got a bit of rapport with the staff, but we’re not on a first name basis yet.
