Boxed wine with added flavors left out 48 hours

Due to a series of misunderstandings my box of Vella Vineyards delicious red(yeah I know) was left out of the fridge for 2 days after being tapped for the first time. The box says refrigerate after opening. Is this a food safety thing or just for flavor.
