Found this in my grandfather's cellar

Hello!

I found this bottle in my grandfather's cellar. I can read that it is Colheita port wine from 1944. I will open it and see if it's drinkable, but has anybody ever seen anything like it? Would can I expect?
My grandfather was in France during WW2, but I believe "herdade" points rather to this being Portuguese.
