Final week in Latin America - region recommendations (Chile/Argentina)? - The Athan Zafirov Wine Blog
Hi all, we are currently in Bolivia and have decided to change our last week of our trip to spend some time in the warmth and exploring some wineries.
Looking for recommendations on regions - we will finish a tour in San Pedro in Northern Chile in a few days, so our options are to fly to Santiago and explore the surrounding regions, go to Salta in Argentina and explore Cafayate, or fly to Mendoza.
We don't have a huge budget but love big reds, Malbec, Cab Sav, also enjoy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay when the weather is warmer so I think we'd enjoy most regions in terms of the type of wine, but I'm not an expert and the wineries of Cafayate seem to have lower or more mixed reviews than say, Mendoza or Maipo.
Also happy to do a few nicer wineries and balance the budget out with some picnic lunches and bought local wines
