I recently tried the Il Secondo Rosso from Peter Sölva in Kaltern (South Tyrol), and it has quickly become one of my personal favorites.
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet to ruby red color. On the nose, you get intense aromas of wild berries and black currants, combined with a distinctive vintage character.
This cuvée of Merlot, Lagrein, and Cabernet Franc is powerful yet beautifully balanced – velvety, full-bodied, and elegant at the same time. On the palate, it offers great fruit, depth, and a long, harmonious finish that really lingers.
For me, it’s a wine that delivers both character and pure drinking pleasure. I can highly recommend it.
In general, the wines from Peter Sölva are consistently high quality. They offer several different lines, and many of them are truly impressive year after year.
