Why does wine make people feel like beginners for so long?

I’ve noticed that with most things, the more time you spend with them, the less you feel like a beginner but with wine that feeling seems to stick around much longer. Even after years of drinking it, I still find myself second guessing choices or feeling like I don’t fully understand what I’m tasting.

I’ll know when I enjoy something but I can’t always explain why and when I’m in a store or looking at a wine list, it often feels like I’m guessing instead of choosing with confidence. There’s just so much information regions, labels, terminology and it never feels like there’s a clear point where it all becomes simple. Does anyone else feel like wine keeps you in that beginner phase longer than other things?
