So it was my first time using WineBid and it turns out they wont ship to me directly. Look - this is 100% on me. I should have asked more questions. But I guess I didn't think to ask about their shipping arrangements because when I completed the purchase and put in my address - it doesnt say anything. Doesnt give you a warning. Nothing.
Turns out since they apparently dont have a shippers license in Virginia - which costs about $200 - they have to ship the wine ground shipping from CA to NYC, then transfer it to a new shipper (not temp controlled) for the next 2-3 days before it can finally get to Virginia. So technically they do "ship to Virginia" I guess.
When I asked about it they said they "cant ship to Virginia" so it has to make this roundabout journey. But its not that they cant, its that they chose not to? When I asked why - given that multiple other wineries have no problems shipping to me direct - I got no response.
Anyway - again - this is on me, I own it. I'm glad it was my first order and a cheap test bottle.
But are there any similar sites I could use where I wont run into this problem?
