I bought a bottle of this in the wake of Reynaud’s death, and it did not disappoint. I am generally not the biggest fan of Cotes du Rhone, but this bottle was a masterful demonstration of just how amazing it can be. On the nose, there were swells of earth, meat fat, potpourri, alongside red fruits that had a remarkable stewed quality for a wine only 6 years old. On the palate, plenty of deep red cherries, stewed strawberries, herbs, and earth were supported by a gentle but persistent acidity acidity grip, which came out more with air.
This is a deep, rich, soulful wine. It took me a moment to get fully on board with it as everything snapped into place, but once it did it was magical.
