Planning the ultimate wine trip to Italy (north/central)

Hey friends!

Last September I went on holiday to the Loire Valley and I had the most incredible time driving around, finding local wineries, buying cases of wine (mostly cremant).

I want to do the same again, but this time I want to hit Italy and I would love your advice! You helped me a lot last time.

My initial idea was to take 3 ish weeks, starting mid June. It’s a 15 hour drive to Tuscany, so I was thinking of breaking it up:

  1. Drive down to the Bourgogne (from the Netherlands), explore for 7 days

  2. drive down to Italy and perhaps stay in Umbria or Tuscany and make my way up to Emilia Romagna (2 ish weeks total).

My main focus is: wine, food and relaxation. Sun is a must (this is the best way for me to relax!). I’ll mostly be driving through smaller towns, not really interested in the big cities (I’ve already been to Pisa, Milan, Rome and Florence).

My main question: should I do mid June till early July or mid/late sept till early Oct?

Side question: do you have recommendations for specific wineries or food workshops?

In terms of wine, I consider myself to be a beginner knowledge. I know more than the average person, but am still working on really tasting different notes.

Thank you so much!
