I've been trying to learn more about wine on my own, YouTube, blogs, apps, a bit of everything, but I'm finding it hard to tell who's actually knowledgeable versus who's just producing content. There's so much conflicting advice on regions, pairings, and even basic tasting technique that I don't know where to focus.
For those of you who feel solid in your wine knowledge now, how did you get there? A few things I'd love recommendations on:
- YouTube channels or podcasts you'd actually trust
- Books that gave you a real foundation
- Whether formal courses (WSET, etc.) are worth it for a hobbyist, or overkill
- How you personally structured your learning, by region, by grape, by style?
Not looking to become a sommelier, just want to actually understand what I'm drinking and stop guessing at pairings. Appreciate any starting points!
